GEOTHERMAL VALVE

Background: In a geothermal closed loop system, pump(s) circulate a fluid through a network of piping runs buried underground or in a body of water. Fluids form these ground loops are circulated through a heat exchanger where the heat is given up to a heat pump.   Heat pump(s) are designed to move thermal energy opposite to the direction of spontaneous heat flow by absorbing heat from a cold space and releasing it to a warmer one, and vice-versa. Since the ground loops need to be air free for proper heat transfer, a geothermal valve was needed for filling and purging these closed loops.

OUT with the old and IN with the new: Older style geothermal valves were heavy, cast pieces of brass. Being made from a casting meant these valves were not always uniform or properly aligned. They relied on a single O-ring for sealing and were known to allow air into the system. Noticing this design flaw Anderson Brass created our own version utilizing a three way ball valve with Teflon® seats to avoid any tendency for air entering the loops while more efficiently purging.  Our geothermal BALL Valve is forged for strength, uniformity and offers a 40% in weight reduction. Each port of the ball valve is sealed using Teflon® seats for 100% contact against the ball at all times.
